FASTag vs GNSS Toll: In recent years, the process of paying toll tax has become hi-tech. FASTag has made the work of people easier. Now there is no need to haggle for change at toll booths and it takes less time than before.

The government is preparing to make the process of paying toll more advanced. The Transport Ministry is going to start Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based toll collection on selected national highways of the country. This system will work with the existing FASTag.

According to a report, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has given this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. According to the report, a pilot study has been done on the Bangalore-Mysore section of NH-275 in Karnataka and the Panipat-Hisar section of NH-709 in Haryana to implement the GNSS system.

The aim of the new system is to increase the efficiency of toll collection and eliminate congestion at toll booths. Remember that Fastag will continue to work even after the new system is introduced. Let us know how the two systems are different from each other.

Difference between FASTag and GNSS Toll

In the FASTag system, a sticker is placed on the windshield of the vehicles, which is equipped with RFID technology. People have to stop for some time at toll booths. The barrier is removed after the sticker is scanned and the required amount is deducted. An important condition of FASTag is that people have to keep balance in the RFID sticker.

The specialty of GNSS Toll is that it tracks the location of the vehicle and communicates with the satellite to calculate the toll according to the fixed distance. The purpose of this system is to eliminate physical toll booths, so that people can travel without stopping. In this system, preparations are being made for prepaid as well as postpaid billing.

At present, GNSS Toll will be used parallel to Fastag. GNSS Toll system is being introduced for the future.
