Its latest defeat has been against Afghanistan. Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the third ODI match. With this, Afghanistan won the 3-match ODI series 2-1. Bangladesh had earlier faced defeat in the Test series against South Africa. Even on the India tour, Bangladesh lost both the Test and T20 series.

The third ODI match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh was played in Sharjah. In this match, Bangladesh team came under the captaincy of its new captain Mehdi Hasan Miraj. Mehdi Hasan has been made the captain in place of Nazmul Shanto, who did not play in this match due to injury. Bangladesh scored 244 runs for 8 wickets in this match.

Afghanistan scored the required runs for victory by losing 5 wickets in 48.2 overs. On his behalf, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a brilliant century. Gurbaz hit 5 fours and 7 sixes in his innings of 120 balls. On the strong foundation of Gurbaz, all-rounders Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi wrote the script of victory. Omarzai remained unbeaten after scoring 70 runs while Nabi returned to the pavilion after scoring 34 runs. Both of them made an unbeaten partnership of 58 runs for the sixth wicket.

Before this, Mahmudullah, the senior most player of the Bangladesh team, played an inning of 98 runs. He was run out on the last ball of the innings. Captain Mehdi Hasan also scored 66 runs. Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai took 4 wickets.
