Arvind Kejriwal News: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the alleged liquor scam, has been granted bail by the special court at Rouse Avenue.
The court of Special Judge Nyay Bindu passed the order on Thursday granting relief to Kejriwal. Due to the decision coming late in the evening, Kejriwal may be released by Friday afternoon.
However, the Central Investigation Agency ED can adopt legal options to stop Kejriwal’s release.
Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. When Judge Nyay Bindu pronounced the bail order, the ED requested him to give them 48 hours to accept the bail bond so that the order could be challenged in the higher court in the meantime.
The court rejected this appeal of the ED and cleared the way for Kejriwal’s release.
Arvind Kejriwal gets bail, court gives big relief in liquor scam
ED’s stand on Kejriwal’s bail has not been revealed. However, sources related to ED say that the investigating agency may challenge the decision in the High Court on Friday morning.
Experts believe that if the court agrees for a quick hearing and stays the lower court’s decision, then the release of Delhi Chief Minister may be stopped. If ED does not get a stay from the High Court, then Kejriwal can come out of jail by afternoon.
While granting bail to Kejriwal, the court said that he will not try to tamper with the evidence or influence the witnesses. The court heard the arguments of both the parties in detail before granting bail.
ED had opposed Kejriwal’s plea and said that there is sufficient evidence against the Chief Minister of Delhi. ASG SV Raju, appearing on behalf of ED, said that Aam Aadmi Party received the scam money and Kejriwal is also responsible as the head of the party.
On the other hand, senior advocate Vikram Chaudhary, who appeared on behalf of Kejriwal, said that the entire case of ED is based only on the statements of such witnesses who themselves are tainted.
He also argued that the witnesses were made to give statements against Kejriwal by promising pardon and bail. He also raised questions on the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest.
