Currently satellite service provider companies like Jio Satellite Communications (Reliance) and OneWeb (backed by Bharti Group) hold satellite communications licenses in India. However, the government will remain adamant on not allocating satellite broadband spectrum independently as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will determine its price. This approach will further support India’s membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), by mirroring the international standard of regulated satellite spectrum allocation.
