Amid reports of continuous violence against minority Hindus in Bangladesh, interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has visited the National Hindu Temple in Dhaka. Yunus, who reached the Dhakeshwari temple, has said that everyone has equal rights in the country. While visiting the National Temple in Dhaka on Tuesday, Mohammad Yunus has sought cooperation from everyone. He has also appealed to the people of the country to be patient before taking a decision for his government.
Talking about Hindus, Prof Yunus said, ‘Everyone has equal rights here. We are all one and have the same rights. Do not discriminate among yourselves. Help us. Be patient and decide wisely what we could do and what we could not. If we fail, then criticise us too.’
Mohammad Yunus further said, “To fulfill our democratic aspirations, we should come together not as Muslims, Hindus or Buddhists, but as human beings. Everyone’s rights must be ensured. All these problems have arisen due to the breakdown of institutional systems. This needs to be fixed.”
He met leaders of several groups as well as temple management board officials and devotees here. Professor Yunus was accompanied by legal advisor Asif Najrul and religious affairs advisor AFM Khalid Hussain. Puja Industry Council President Basudev Dhar and General Secretary Santosh Sharma were also present. Regarding the meeting, Basudev Dhar said, “We congratulated Dr. Yunus on assuming office. We had a good meeting with him.”
