New Delhi. After changing its head coach for IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals has also changed its bowling coach. Delhi Capitals on Tuesday appointed Munaf Patel as its bowling coach for the next season of the Indian Premier League. Munaf Patel will work with the team’s head coach Hemang Badani and director of cricket Venugopal Rao.
41-year-old Munaf Patel will take over the responsibility of coaching for the first time in his career. He will replace James Hopes in Delhi Capitals. Australia’s James Hopes left the franchise along with head coach Ricky Ponting after IPL 2024.
Munaf Patel has played matches in all three formats for India. He retired from professional cricket in 2018. Munaf has played 86 international matches in his career and taken 125 wickets. He was part of India’s World Cup winning team in 2011. He has also won the IPL twice with Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Mumbai Indians (2013).
Delhi Capitals has retained 4 players Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs and Abhishek Porel for the upcoming season. He has released the rest of the players including Rishabh Pant, who captained the team last season. In such a situation, it is certain that Delhi Capitals will bet on many big players in the IPL auction to be held in November.
