New Delhi. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, who is out of Team India, is not really having a good time. After performing well in domestic cricket, the selectors sent him with the India A team on the Australia tour. While going there and playing against Australia A, he got embroiled in controversies. He was almost banned from playing the match. Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan will not face a dissent charge after match officials clarified why the ball was changed in the ‘A’ series match at Mackay.
A statement from Cricket Australia said the ball used in the fourth innings of the match was replaced due to “degeneration”. The captains and managers of both the teams were informed about this decision before the start of the game. Cricket Australia confirmed that no further action would be taken.
There was confusion among India A players regarding the change of ball at the beginning of the fourth day of the first class match against Australia A in Mackay. There was a group discussion between the players and umpire Shawn Craig. Umpire Craig had warned India A wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan that he could be charged with dissent for “inappropriate behaviour”. He was heard via the stump microphone on Cricket.com.au’s live stream as he told the umpire that the decision to change the ball was “very stupid”.
Craig had initially said in comments on the stump microphone, “You will be charged with dissent, that is inappropriate behaviour,” but no further action would be taken after Australia A won by seven wickets. The umpires were not required to impose a five-run penalty after the ball was deemed “bad”, as is the case under Rule 41.3.4 if “the umpires consider that the condition of the ball has been unreasonably altered”.
