Lok Sabha First Session Live: The first session of the eighteenth Lok Sabha is starting from Monday. The newly elected members will be sworn in during the session today. After this, the Lok Sabha Speaker will be elected on June 26 and President Draupadi Murmu will address a joint meeting of both the houses on June 27.
There is a possibility of uproar in the Lok Sabha during the session due to the appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and seven-time MP Bhartruhari Mahtab as the temporary Speaker (Protem Speaker) of the lower house of Parliament.
Apart from this, uproar is also possible regarding the exit polls and NEET and UGC-NET examinations.
The opposition has strongly criticised the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro tem Speaker and alleged that the government ignored the claim of Congress MP K Suresh for the post. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that Mahtab is a seven-time Lok Sabha member, making him suitable for the post.
He said Suresh had lost the elections in 1998 and 2004, making his current term his fourth consecutive term in the lower house. Earlier, he was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1989, 1991, 1996 and 1999.
President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath to Mahtab as the pro tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Mahtab will then reach Parliament House and begin the Lok Sabha proceedings at 11 am.
At the beginning of the proceedings, a moment of silence will be observed. After this, Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh will table the list of members elected to the lower house.
After this, at Mahtab’s request, Leader of the Lok Sabha Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the oath of membership of the House.
