One person died when a cylinder exploded while filling gas in balloons in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Sunday. This information was provided by the police Police said the victim, identified as Bipadtaran Bagdi, had gone to the house of Durgaprasad Bhattacharya, a civic volunteer, in Binse village near Sainthia to fill gas in the balloons.
Police said that the cylinder explosion took place at Bhattacharya’s house. Police said the house was badly damaged by the blast and Bagri’s body was badly mutilated.
Police said that soon after, angry villagers attacked and vandalized Bhattacharya’s house, blaming him for the incident. Police said they also attacked the civilian volunteer and demanded his immediate arrest.
Police have started investigation but have not arrested anyone yet as they are probing the role of Bhattacharya, who allegedly started the business of filling gas balloons and called Bagri for the work .
“We have not arrested anyone yet as the investigation is in the initial stage,” a police officer told PTI over phone. We are investigating the role of citizen volunteer.
Trinamool Congress block president Sabar Ali Khan expressed condolences and assured justice to the family of the deceased. He said, “This is a very sad incident.” We are talking to family members and trying to console them. The culprit should be punished.
