Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has broken his silence on the rape and murder of a doctor in a Kolkata hospital. Rahul Gandhi had not yet reacted to this incident that happened last week. In a post written on Instagram on Wednesday, he said that efforts are being made to save the accused. Along with this, he also mentioned the incidents of sexual harassment in Hathras, Unnao and Kathua. In this way, in a subtle way, he tried to put Mamata Banerjee as well as the governments of BJP-ruled states in the dock.
Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter, ‘The entire country is shocked by the gruesome incident of rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata. The way the layers of the cruel and inhuman act against her are being exposed, there is an atmosphere of insecurity among the doctors’ community and women. Instead of providing justice to the victim, the attempt to save the accused raises serious questions on the hospital and the local administration.’ Rahul Gandhi further writes that this incident has forced us to think that if doctors are not safe in a place like a medical college, then with what confidence should parents send their daughters outside for studies?
He raised the question that why even the strict laws made after the Nirbhaya case are unsuccessful in preventing such crimes? From Hathras to Unnao, and from Kathua to Kolkata, every party, every section will have to hold serious discussions and take concrete measures on the ever-increasing incidents against women. I stand with the victim’s family in this unbearable pain. They should get justice at all costs and the culprits should get such punishment that it is presented as an example in the society. Let us tell you that questions were being raised about Rahul Gandhi’s silence in this matter. Now he has silenced the opposition by questioning Mamata Banerjee.
