The country’s largest electric vehicle (EV) maker Tata Motors is set to launch an electric version of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Harrier. It will be launched in the current financial year. Before this, there is a plan to introduce Curvv EV.

Last year, Harrier EV was showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo. Its design is almost similar to the petrol and diesel engine variants of Harrier. However, some other changes have been made to its grille and bumper. Tata Motors has not given information about its battery and range.

It can be given a 60 kWh battery. Its range on a single charge can be more than 500 kilometers. Harrier crossed the 1 lakh sales mark last year. It was the first SUV from the company to be manufactured using the OmegaArc platform developed on the D8 platform. The D8 platform is used for SUVs like Jaguar Land Rover’s Range Rover.

The Harrier is priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 24.07 lakh (ex-showroom). The five-seater SUV competes with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Over the years, the SUV has seen several updates and new variants like Dark and Camo have been introduced.

Earlier this year, Tata Motors launched the Harrier SUV with a BS6 Stage II compliant engine. The 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine produces 168 bhp of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque.

The SUV gets several ADAS features like forward collision warning, rear collision warning, emergency braking, door opening alert, lane change alert and high beam assist.

Tata Motors plans to set up a factory in Tamil Nadu. This factory will manufacture luxury cars under the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) brand. JLR’s sales in India grew by 81 percent in the last financial year.

An investment of one billion dollars can be made in this factory. Earlier, an agreement was signed between Tata Motors and JLR for licensing JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.
