Mexico is the fifth riskiest country for natural disasters with a risk factor of 35.93%. The country is prone to earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and wildfires.
Colombia is fourth on the list with the possibility of a natural disaster in 2024 at 37.38%. In January 2024, Colombian President Gustavo Pedro said he would declare wildfire in the country as a natural disaster.
India is third on the list with risk factors of a natural disaster in 2024 standing at 40.96%. The country has faced many natural disasters, including floods, cyclones and earthquakes.
Indonesia is second on the list. The country is prone to many natural disasters due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and its position at the intersection of three tectonic plates.
Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, drought, and frequent floods and typhoons have almost become a part of everyday life. Recently, Typhoon Yagi claimed at least 15 lives in the country.
In the top 10, many countries at risk of natural disasters are from Asia including Myanmar, Russia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Surprisingly, China is not in the top 10. Other countries in the top 10 are Mexico and Mozambique.
