The incident came to light on July 11.
According to, the entire matter was investigated under the supervision of the US FAA. After any space launch, scientists get data related to the rocket. In the current case, it has been found that the first stage booster of the Falcon-9 rocket performed normally, that is, it did its job properly.
However, it has been found that as soon as the second stage engine of the Falcon 9 rocket did its first burn, i.e. started itself, there was a leak of liquid oxygen in the insulation around the upper stage engine. Despite the leak, the second stage engine continued to do its job and kept moving forward with the satellite.
After this, another burn was to be done to put the satellites in their orbit properly. But due to the leak, the engine parts became too cold. The engine had to be given a hard start, which damaged its hardware and the upper stage of the rocket lost its control.
The SpaceX team continued working even then. It tried to increase the height of about 10 Starlink satellites, but eventually all 20 satellites re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere and were destroyed. The Falcon-9 rocket is one of SpaceX’s most successful rockets, which has successfully completed many space missions.
